Optimization and estimation of Lunsanu mine reserves, in Haut-Katanga, D.R. Congo

This study for the optimization and estimation of resources was prepared for Surya Mines for the Lunsanu copper deposit at Lunsanu, Kipese area located in the province of Haut Katanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The purpose of the work is to report the estimated resources and mineral reserves of this project, the resulting plant design, financial assessments and ancillary studies associated with the development of an SX / EW / HMS processing plant producing black copper ingots grading up to 95% copper. To achieve this, the Whittle open pit optimization software (version 4.4.1) was used to determine the economic boundaries of mining. For the Lunsanu mine a production limit of 6.2 million tons of ore to supply the plant was estimated, Whittle's term calls for a production schedule of 10.7 full years. The total exploitable reserve is 6.2 Mt tons, at 3.49% Cu, with an overall stripping rate of 4 tons of waste for each tons of ore. The Pay-back period is estimated at around 4 years.
